Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This month 5 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.
Your “Secret Subject” is:
If you were to win a yard makeover, what would you have done to it?
It was submitted by: https://Bakinginatornado.com
Oh boy, Karen! You don’t know what you’ve done!
Okay, I have a problem. I am constantly designing my yard in my head. It’s funny though I couldn’t care less about the inside (up to a point) I mean I’m not giving up high-speed internet or toilets that flush but I have always wanted a dream yard, not a dream house. so I can give you exact, maybe even measurements haha!
I’m including a few pictures of my yard now with a few caveats:
- My gardens are disasters and it has broken my heart but definitely not my spirit. We’ve had SO MUCH rain here that everything flooded and the vegetables rotted and died. The other day we had 14 inches of rain in one storm! Living in SC I’ve never had this problem before! I planted my gardens to be close to my water source. A great idea in normal times!
- Because of the rain and storms, the yard is looking a little like a drowned rat. While luckily, I was not in any danger of flooding and my heart goes out to many neighbors who were not so lucky. My prayers are with the families who lost loved ones to the raging waters of the Pigeon River. (You might remember a story I wrote a few years ago called “A Bend In The River”. This is that area. We have been looking for land there, but we want to do a little more thinking). It still calls to me and I visit often.
- I do not own my yard or home. I live in a rented mobile home and you know what, I’m totally fine with that. This is my happy place, but it’s also just a temporary home until my husband retires in a few years. SC was never going to be our forever home and with the political climate, it’s becoming more apparent. I’m also not allowed to have a pool (I asked).
Okay on to my new yard!
First and foremost I would ask for an inground swimming pool with a cover over it. I know weird right? I absolutely love to swim. It’s my most favorite form of exercise. I have severe RA so my bones and joints are always achy. When I climb into a swimming pool all of those aches go away. My body feels good which is such an amazing feeling.
I am also apparently allergic to the sun because of the medications I am taking. I had to order special long sleeve shirts that have UVA protection made into the material and wear outside and I don’t think it would be easy to win wearing one. So a cover over it would be an actual dream of mine.
So with my covered pool, I would like a place to entertain my family. A nice large table so that everyone can fit for Sunday dinners around the grill. Lots of flowers were planted around everything with hummingbird feeders every few feet. Hummingbirds are special to me because they make me think of momma. I just bought the grill I wanted, but one of those Green Egg grills would be nice but not necessary.
A small greenhouse with all of the planting tools and containers that connects to the container gardens full of tomatoes and our regular garden with ALL OF THE VEGETABLES! I love them all, okay except beets and okra. I also have almost become a total vegetarian and rarely eat meat at all. So my garden has to have a big variety.
I love to have room for the kids to run around and explore. They love going on “adventures” here with their papaw and you couldn’t do that with a smaller yard.
That’s pretty much all I need. What it looks like, what colors that I don’t care about it. I’ll be in the pool!
