Welcome to a Fly on the Wall group post. Today 4 bloggers are inviting you to catch a glimpse of what you’d see if you were a fly on the wall in our homes. Come on in and buzz around my house.
Summer is here and Spring is just a fond memory of sneezing and blowing noses. We’re already in the 90’s yuck! This is the main reason I want to move out of the south (besides the right-wing hell I’ve found myself in). I want to move north and I say this every summer but as hubby’s retirement is not too far around the bend we’re thinking of making that move in just a couple more years.
We’ve discussed several states. My vote was Washington or Oregon, hubby wants Colorado but our last escapade out west taught us a valuable lesson. We’re east coast people and there’s no use fighting it. I’ve been to the west coast many times and each time I feel like I’m going to heaven only to realize that it’s hell and it’s hell getting back.
I feel more like myself on the east coast, even though I’m not sure why. It just feels like home like I’m magnetized on the east coast. I wonder if that’s a thing? My body feels more in sync. Anyway, we think we’ve agreed on Maine. We both like the cold and we’ve been there several times and it’s a beautiful state. But that’s a few years away and we’re still looking for land here because well my grandbabies are here. Enough said!
These days I’m trying to turn my black thumb into a dark shade of green. We have worked so hard to put out a decent garden this year and after years of failures, I think this year just might be my year! Summers past would all start out the same way. We would rush and put out a quick garden and either neglect it, kill it or open a self-serve diner for all of the neighborhood critters!
Of course, this is the first year I’ve actually done any of the work because of my health and a healthy dose of laziness. This year is different. I have fallen in love with yard work! Who knew! I created this raised bed garden and it seems to be doing pretty good after the second time around. The first set froze!
Then I sweet-talked my husband into renting a rototiller and creating a new garden space just for me. Besides giving me hours of comic relief watching my husband being slung around like a rag doll hanging on for dear life to this hulking piece of machinery. I had to rub his shoulders for 4 days! I’ll let you know later this summer if it was worth it.
So now, we have the start of a garden that still needs a lot of work. By this fall I plan to add trellises and a fence. We were pleasantly surprised to find actual dirt under the grass instead of the ugly red clay that sticks to EVERYTHING! I have also fallen in love with a piece of machinery that I hadn’t used since I was banned a few years ago!
You may remember several years ago, I wrote a story for Huffington Post about how I destroyed his lawnmower by trying to help him and met my neighbor at the same time! You can find that HERE! So, the fact that he even lets me sit on it is a small miracle, but not only can I sit on it. I’ve taken over! I am now the backyard mower and I’m so happy! Weird I know, but this is my thinking:
I babysit my 6-year-old twin grandchildren every day after school plus as a business owner my phone can sometimes become my kryptonite but on mowing day? I take my phone and turn on my tunes as loud as it goes and enjoy the fact that what is going in my ears is completely voluntary and I can always turn it off which I don’t seem to be able to do with the twins!
In other news, our Governor just signed a bill to bring back firing squads for death penalty prisoners! What century is this again?
