Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
My words are:
glass ~ file box ~ ketchup ~ bonus ~ phone

Well, I looked at these words and ketchup stands out probably because I decided to make a meatloaf today and it contains lots & lots of Ketchup! We don’t eat it often because of the heartburn it will undoubtedly cause, but I’ve been craving it.
Between that and an hour-long phone conversation with an old, dear friend I’ve been thinking about mom a lot today. I’m mostly okay, but sometimes the memories kick me in the gut. Like using her favorite meatloaf recipe, who am I kidding her only meatloaf recipe.
She didn’t much like to cook and other than a stuffing recipe that we still use today, she didn’t believe in using spices. I don’t have a file box full of mouth-watering dishes in my repertoire. My family was famous for how many times we had hamburger & french fries in a weeks time. All of the kids wanted to eat at our house. It was hamburgers, fried fish to be switched out with pork chops once a week or breakfast for dinner. That was mostly it unless she threw in the meatloaf once in a while to break the monotony.
She didn’t enjoy cooking and I can understand that. She also had 5 kids to feed, 4 of which were growing boys, but I think that’s where my cooking anxiety comes from. I’ve never felt at home even in my own kitchen. I like to eat out so there’s that. It doesn’t really bother me, I muddle through okay and there’s plenty of restaurants to enjoy. I tend to look at the glass as half full.
Now that it’s just hubby and me, we eat out more often. It’s easier and just as cheap most of the time. There are days though when I enjoy cooking. Sunday is that day for me, usually. I love nothing better than to stay home, hubby, watching sports and me pretending to pay attention, while a delicious fragrance wafts through the house. My most favorite meal to cook, though, is Thanksgiving!
What’s your favorite meal to cook? Are you good at it or are you like me and end up with cuts or burns every single time! Oh and as a bonus I burn the bread almost as often.
